Greg Gianforte Lies Again To Montanans About His Plan for Their Health Care

Gianforte Claims He Will Protect Access to Affordable Health Care While Supporting Lawsuit to Dismantle the Affordable Care Act

Republican gubernatorial candidate Greg Gianforte is continuing his campaign of repeatedly lying to Montanans to cover up his support for harmful policies. Today, Gianforte claimed he will protect Montanans’ health care – even though he openly supports dismantling the Affordable Care Act, which would end Medicaid expansion.

Gianforte claims that he would “build upon what he worked on in Congress.” As Montana’s sole Congressman, Gianforte voted in support of the Republican lawsuit to overturn the ACA.

Gianforte also claimed as governor that he would bring down health care costs, protect Montanans with pre-existing conditions, and preserve rural access to care. But these goals would be nearly impossible to achieve without the Affordable Care Act, which Gianforte has pledged to dismantle “piece by piece.”

Gianforte knows that dismantling the ACA would throw 125,000 Montanans off their health care, rip away protections for pre-existing conditions for up to 425,000 Montanans, and leave rural hospitals in the lurch.

This week, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mike Cooney unveiled his plan to lower prescription drug costs and increase access to affordable health care. As lieutenant governor, Cooney helped pass the bipartisan Medicaid expansion plan, which now provides health care to nearly 1 in 10 Montanans.

“Greg Gianforte is trying yet again to pull the wool over Montanans’ eyes,” said DGA National Press Secretary Jerusalem Demsas. “Without the Affordable Care Act, there is no Medicaid expansion and saying otherwise is a blatant lie. Montanans deserve a governor who they can trust with their health care.”
