Governor Raimondo Stands With Rhode Island Women, Mayor Fung Does Not

As Governor Gina Raimondo works tirelessly on behalf of Rhode Island women, Mayor Allan Fung is embroiled in a lengthy gender discrimination and harassment lawsuit and runs a city with just one female firefighter.
Until last year, Fung’s 195-member Cranston Fire Department was the only fire department in a Rhode Island city without women or minorities in uniform. And in Fung’s police department, a year-long search to improve the diversity of the force resulted in five white male finalists. Additionally, Fung is embroiled in an ongoing, multi-year gender discrimination and harassment lawsuit with the highest ranking woman ever in the Cranston Police Department.
“The contrast between Governor Raimondo and Mayor Fung could not be more clear when it comes to standing with Rhode Island women,” said DGA Press Secretary Melissa Miller. “Raimondo stands up for women at every turn, while Mayor Fung is involved in lengthy legal proceedings regarding gender discrimination and harassment in his city and has failed to hire women to key departments in Cranston.”
“From supporting equal pay legislation to protecting access to affordable health care in Rhode Island and improving economic security for women and families, Gina Raimondo is the leader Rhode Island women need and deserve. Fung says he will do for Rhode Island what he has done for Cranston – and that should be deeply troubling to women and those who support gender equality across the Ocean State.”
