GOP Civil War: Amanda Chase Threatens to Start New Political Party After VA GOP Digs in on Convention

Latest News

Over the weekend, the VA GOP narrowly voted to reaffirm its decision to select a gubernatorial nominee via a convention, handing another rebuke to conservative firebrand state Sen. Amanda Chase, who sees a primary as her best path to victory. Chase said if Republicans didn’t get it together soon, she would “start the Patriot Party here in Virginia.”

Instead of focusing on the issues important to Virginians, Republicans have been viciously fighting over whether to hold a primary or a convention. The VA GOP keeps trying to manipulate the rules to stop Chase from winning – but unfortunately for them, they’re screwed no matter what. With a crowded field of Republican candidates, Chase and her devoted band of Trump supporters are growing more powerful each day. Regardless of who comes out on top, the nominee will have to run far to the right to compete with Chase. And should Chase lose the nomination, she could still play spoiler – she’s threatened several times to run as an independent.

The VA GOP is falling apart – literally. The state party only has about $1,500 in the bank, and its offices are in disrepair. Chairman Richard Anderson reaffirmed how racist and out of touch the VA Republican party is by referring to the party headquarters as a “literal ghetto.”

“Virginia Republicans are focusing all of their energy on fighting one another rather than helping Virginians,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Christina Amestoy. “We’re in the middle of a pandemic and people are struggling to put food on the table – and the VA GOP spends every weekend bickering with party insiders. Virginia Republicans have made it clear they are out of touch with the needs of the commonwealth and don’t share Virginians’ values.”
