During QPAC Week, Trump Lays Plans to “Exact Revenge” on Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp

According to Politico, Donald Trump has told advisors he’s eager to “exact revenge […] against Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp” for failing to overturn his state’s election results in Trump’s favor. Trump has been actively recruiting primary challengers against Kemp in Georgia, including Rep. Doug Collins and football player Herschel Walker.

Trump is also gearing up to spend big on races next year through a Super PAC – meaning Kemp could be looking at a very long and expensive primary.

Brian Kemp’s predicament isn’t unique – all GOP primary fights for the foreseeable future are going to be Trump litmus tests. In the Virginia governor’s race, the GOP candidates are already in a brutal race to the right, and unsurprisingly, the frontrunner is self-titled “Trump in heels” Amanda Chase, who attended the Stop the Steal rally that led to the January 6th insurrection and wears her Facebook ban for spreading misinformation like a badge of honor. The other candidates are trying to out-Trump Chase by doing equally as outlandish things, like asking for “NFL-style scouting reports on election officials” and suggesting the election was riddled with fraud.

In Pennsylvania, the first GOP gubernatorial candidate, Joe Gale, is already setting the tone for dangerous extremism, saying he’s entering the race to “continue advancing the Trump movement.” Gale has complained about “establishment puppets” and “fake conservatives” like PA Sen. Pat Toomey, who voted to impeach Trump.

And in Michigan, the poster child for far-right extremism, the announced GOP gubernatorial candidates are Allendale Township official Ryan Kelley, who is facing calls for removal from his position after he was spotted at the U.S. Capitol insurrection, and Austin Chenge, who was with Kelley in supporting the violent mob at the Capitol. Additionally, one of the more prominent faces of the MI GOP, Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, has been under fire for cozying up to militia groups and spreading debunked conspiracy theories, like the capitol riot was a “hoax.”

Pay attention – these upcoming Republican primaries are going to produce some of the most extreme candidates we’ve ever seen.

“Just because Trump has left the White House doesn’t mean his influence over the GOP has waned,” said Communications Director David Turner. “Donald Trump’s threats in Georgia are very troublesome for Brian Kemp and ensure he’ll face an expensive primary. It’s clear loyalty to Trump will be a prerequisite for winning a GOP primary in the coming cycles.”
