DGA Statement on Montana Gubernatorial Primary

DGA Statement on Montana Gubernatorial Primary

Today, the Democratic Governors Association issued the following statement on the results of Montana’s gubernatorial primary on Tuesday night:

“Montana voters will have a clear choice for Governor in November between Steve Bullock and his Republican opponent Greg Gianforte,” said DGA Executive Director Elisabeth Pearson. “Governor Bullock has worked across the aisle to make Montana a national leader for fiscal responsibility, ranking as the most fiscally prudent state in the nation while maintaining a $300 million rainy day fund. Under Governor Bullock’s leadership, more Montanans are working than ever before and the unemployment rate is well below the national average.

“Gianforte’s agenda is clear: He’s donated more than $1 million to anti-LGBT groups, criticized senior citizens for receiving Social Security, and sued Montana to prevent public access to the East Gallatin River near his property,” Pearson continued. “Gianforte has built his campaign around a budget-busting tax plan that gives huge tax breaks to millionaires like himself, at the expense of middle-class families. The contrast in the election this November could not be clearer.”
