Tonight, Democratic Governors Association Chair Gov. Jay Inslee (D-WA) released the following statement on state Rep. James Smith winning the Democratic nomination for governor in South Carolina:
“Congratulations to James Smith for earning the Democratic nomination in South Carolina,” said Inslee. “An Army combat veteran who received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service in Afghanistan, James Smith has led a life of service to his country and to South Carolina. As governor, James will fight to expand access to affordable health care, increase support for teachers and students, and diversify the state’s economy to create jobs of the 21st century. He is uniquely prepared to unite the state, end the culture of corruption in Columbia, and build a South Carolina that actually works for all South Carolinians. James is an example of the great crop of gubernatorial candidates that Democrats have in red, blue and purple states alike.”
