Infosys Cites State’s Education System in Decision to Pick RI

Today, Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo announced Infosys, a global leader in the IT industry, plans on building a new “Design and Innovation Hub” in Providence. The company is expected to hire 500 Rhode Islanders over the next five years.

“We are excited to welcome Infosys to Rhode Island,” said Raimondo. “Because of our investments in higher education and job training at CCRI and other institutions across the state, Rhode Islanders are well-equipped and well-prepared to compete for these good-paying jobs.

Infosys President Ravi Kumar also said the state’s investment in higher education, a key achievement of the Raimondo administration, was a leading factor in the decision to build there:

Kumar pointed to the state’s academic environment as a good fit for his company’s needs. “What is very important is the academic situation around the center we establish,” he said, offering particular praise for Brown University, CCRI, and the Rhode Island School of Design.

“This is a clear sign: Investing in education creates jobs,” said DGA Communications Director Jared Leopold. “Governor Raimondo is leading the way on smart investments to grow Rhode Island’s economy. Today’s announcement by Infosys is another major step forward for Rhode Island under Governor Raimondo’s leadership.”
