As Georgia Fights for Amazon, GOP Gov. Candidates Draw National Ridicule

Cagle, Williams and Other GA Republicans Slammed Over Delta Threats

Georgia is in a competitive battle to lure Amazon’s 2nd headquarters to Atlanta. And at the time when they should be putting their best foot forward, Republicans running for governor are embarrassing the state on a national stage. Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and several other GOP candidates crossed an “ethically murky line” when they threatened to punish Delta for cutting ties to the NRA and it’s backfiring in a big way.
Cagle, who made national news with his threat, was parodied last night on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

“Take your threat and place it in an upright and locked position”

Meanwhile one of Cagle’s primary opponents, Michael Williams, embarrassed himself on CNN claiming that Delta gave discounts to Planned Parenthood but not the NRA. CNN’s Brianna Keilar quickly pointed out that Williams’ claim was false.

On their HQ2 application, Amazon says it is looking for “a stable and consistent business climate” with “elected officials eager and willing to work with the company.” This Delta feud is clearly hurting Georgia’s case.
“With Amazon watching, Georgia Republicans have embarrassed their state over and over again,” said DGA Communications Director Jared Leopold. “Instead of creating jobs and growing the economy, Georgia Republicans made the state fodder for late night jokes and viral news segments. If Republicans are willing to attack their largest employer to impress a few primary voters, why would anyone want to do business in the state?”
