DGA Announces $10.2M raised in Q2, $21M in 2016

$21M marks record-breaking fundraising for first half of presidential year

Report comes as Democratic candidates outraise Republicans across country

Today, the Democratic Governors Association announced the organization raised $10.2 million across all entities in the second quarter of 2016. The Q2 fundraising haul boosts the DGA’s total money raised to more than $21 million for 2016.

The $21 million raised through 2016 marks record-breaking fundraising numbers compared to similar points of the presidential elections of 2012 and 2008. This comes on the heels of the DGA’s $30.2 million raised in 2015, setting a new record for the first year of a four-year gubernatorial cycle.

“With $21 million raised so far, the DGA enters the final stretch of 2016 in strong position to elect Democratic governors in November,” said DGA Executive Director Elisabeth Pearson. “The Trump/Pence ticket has sent Republicans scurrying for cover and will bring the failures of the GOP gubernatorial record to the national stage. Meanwhile, Democratic governors are advancing policies to grow the middle class and create opportunity for more Americans. These fundraising figures reflect the growing appetite for Democratic gubernatorial leadership across the country.”

The DGA’s strong Q2 report also comes as Democratic candidates outraise their GOP opponents in 2016 and build significant cash reserves:

Indiana: Democratic Candidate John Gregg: $8.6M raised; $5.8M cash-on-hand

Republican candidate: Candidate yet to be named.

North Carolina: Attorney General Roy Cooper: $12.7M raised; $9.4M cash-on-hand

GOP Gov. Pat McCrory: $8.7M raised; $6.3M cash-on-hand

 Missouri: Attorney General Chris Koster (D): $10.2M cash-on-hand; 

Combined cash on hand for Republicans Eric Greitens, John Brunner, Catherine Hanaway and Peter Kinder: $6.1M

Washington: Gov. Jay Inslee: $6.4M raised; $3.9M cash-on-hand

Republican candidate Bill Bryant: $1.8M raised; $650K cash-on-hand
