What Is RSS?

RSS—which stands for Really Simple Syndication—lets people watch for new content on the Internet without having to reload a page over and over again in a Web browser. Through an RSS feed, an Internet user can monitor key information about new stories at their favorite sites: headlines, descriptions of articles, and links to new web pages.

How Do I Use RSS?

As RSS has grown more popular, users have gained more choices in how they track RSS feeds. The two best options:

1. Through an RSS-ready browser, such as Firefox or Safari, that can present an RSS feed as a ‘live,’ continuously updated bookmark; or

2. Through an ‘RSS aggregator,’ or news reader—a program that gives an Internet user the power to collect, organize and read all of her RSS feeds in one place.
