Gregoire Earns Newspaper Endorsements
In Chris Gregoire, Washington has a governor who has served the state well during relatively good times. She is a good bet for a future likely to be less rosy economically. Washington voters should re-elect Gregoire based on proven performance, capability and drive. Especially for uncertain times, she’s a much more proven leader than her Republican rival, former state Sen. Dino Rossi. At the end of the day, we believe she is cable of tightening while retaining a solid, moral, well-grounded vision of wider opportunities, better health and improved transportation. For a state with hope of a brighter future, she is a clear choice. Read here Gov. Gregoire was also endorsed by The Columbian, Read here

MO – Nixon Urges Support for State Employees Deployed Overseas. The state of Missouri needs to support its employees who are deployed overseas in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo and other locations as members of the National Guard or Reserves by ensuring that they continue to receive their full salaries, Attorney General Jay Nixon said. He said those employee-soldiers overseas and their families back home in Missouri should not suffer a financial penalty because they have been deployed to serve our country. “It is shameful that Missouri hasn’t followed the lead of most other states in supporting the Missourians and their families who are making sacrifices for state and country to protect us,” Nixon said. VT – Symington Sees ‘Clear Path to Win.’ Five months ago on a hot spring day, Gaye Symington stood on the granite steps of the Vermont Statehouse and announced she was running for governor. Symington said her decision to run grew out of her frustration with Douglas blocking legislative initiatives on key issues from campaign finance reform to funding renewable energy and efficiency projects through a tax on Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant. “Our work was met with active resistance from Jim Douglas,” Symington said. “I felt I had to step up to the plate or the state would be left adrift.” Symington said Douglas has been wrong or slow to respond to nearly every major issue facing Vermont. The state has lost ground in the race for the green economy, she said, missing out on the opportunity to bring hundreds of new, high-paying jobs to the state. Could she become Vermont’s second female governor? Symington says yes: She has a sense that Vermonters are yearning for change this year. “The voters over the last several years have put their trust in Jim Douglas,” she said. “But I think we are all tired of hearing the spin.” Read more
