Perdue Poised for Victory in November
Washington, D.C. – Gov. Joe Manchin (W.Va.) this evening congratulated Lt. Gov. Bev Perdue on winning the North Carolina gubernatorial primary and pledged the DGA’s support. With projected record turnout and unprecedented Democratic enthusiasm, she becomes North Carolina’s first female nominee for Governor.
“Bev Perdue has the know-how and the vision to take North Carolina to the next level,” Gov. Manchin said. “North Carolinians are well-accustomed to innovative, results-oriented Democratic Governors, and Bev is on track to be their next one. As Democrats rally behind Bev, the DGA stands ready to support her as she moves closer to victory in November.”
DGA Executive Director Nathan Daschle, commenting on the Republican nominee, added, “If Pat McCrory is unable to tackle Charlotte’s tough issues, like crime and public safety, how can he tackle tough issues that all North Carolinians face? Fortunately, North Carolinians have a far better alternative: Bev Perdue.”
Perdue is positioned to continue North Carolina’s long history of Democratic Governors. The state has elected only two Republican Governors in the past 100 years.
