Scudder Parker: Biography
Scudder Parker, a former minister and state senator, and a veteran public servant, officially entered the race with a major address on October 29, 2005, which turned out more than 450 supporters.
Parker grew up on his family’s farm in Danville and helped manage the farm’s succession between generations after his father died. He served for more than two decades as a Congregational minister in Caledonia County. As the first Democrat elected to the Vermont Senate from Caledonia in more than sixty years, Parker served four terms, the last two in leadership as chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee.
Parker worked for thirteen years in the administrations of Govs. Madeleine Kunin, Richard Snelling, and Howard Dean as the director of the Energy Efficiency Division at the Public Service Department. In that role he provided innovative leadership in the development of energy policies that continue to save Vermonters money.
Most recently, Parker was the public policy coordinator for Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility, where he helped Vermont businesses find and promote solutions to our energy and health-care challenges.
Scudder has two grown daughters, Katie and Emily. He lives in Middlesex with his wife, Susan Sussman.
